The version in english of our block game "Dark Ages: Britannia" is out!

What is “Dark Ages: Britannia”?
It is a board wargame that allows players to fight some of the most important battles that took place in England and Scotland in the early Middle Ages.

How many battles can be played?
In the base game, there are 6 battles: Fulford (1066 AD), Stamford bridge (1066 AD), Hastings (1066 AD), Stirling bridge (1297 AD), Falkirk (1298 AD), Bannockburn (1314 AD). The latter is divided into two scenarios: DAY 1 and DAY2.

Which armies are represented in the game?
The Vikings, the Anglo-saxons, the Normans, the Scots and the English.

Is any expansion planned for the future?
Yes. Many expansions have been planned. They will all be dealing with medieval battles that took place in several different areas mainly of Europe (e.g., France, Italy, Spain, etc…)

Is it a difficult and long game?
No. It is neither long nor difficult. As a matter of fact, it was designed to appeal also to very young people who are not familiar with board wargames. The average length of a game is about 90/120 min.

Is it only a version of Commands & Colors set in the Middle Ages?
No. It is a different game. Even though wooden blocks, cards, and dice are used to play, “Dark Ages: Britannia” is substantially different from Command & Colors. In many ways. To name a few:

  • a map is not divided into three different areas, but each unit is free to move and combat wherever a player wants. As a result, the use of cards is much freer
  • each card can be played in different ways, and there are also “Event cards” that can trigger historical events (e.g., the death of a leader) and can lengthen or shorten a game
  • Units have attack, defence, and moral values
  • The blocks forming a unit are not eliminated right away when hit in combat, they suffer disorganization first.
  • The dice provided with the game are standard dice. There are no symbols on them but only numbers.
  • There are two combat modes: Assault and Melee.

Where can I buy it?
Directly from the publisher WBS Games (http://www.gameshop.wbsgames.com/) or from many different online stores, including Hexasim (www.hexasim.fr), Udo Grebe (www.ugg.de), Agorajeux (www.agorajeux.com) in Europe or Gamesurplus in the U.S.A. (www.gamesurplus.com).
